Serving In: World Headquarters

As a child Liza grew up in a wealthy family near Chicago and her parents would sleep in on Sunday after their Saturday night parties. When Sunday morning came, she was picked up by an old taxi cab driver alone and driven to an Episcopalian church as her parents only belonged to this church for social reasons. In 8th grade she wrote a paper for confirmation class to be able to partake in communion but it was history, not a relationship with Jesus.

As she entered high school she was invited to a Young Life bible study about how to become a Christian woman, Proverbs 31. She believed in God, prayed, and talked to Him often, but never knew Him personally. After the bible study, on the way to her car, she gave her heart and life to Jesus.

Now that she knew Jesus, she would often go into her room and worship. Suddenly one day as she sang, she wanted to groan in a different language. Soon she was singing in the spirit in praise. She had never heard anything about the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, she just wanted more of Jesus.

Jim was raised as a typical Presbyterian young boy in Indianapolis, IN.  He went to church every Sunday, but had no knowledge of Jesus Christ. When he was about 15 years old in the 9th grade, someone gave him the book “The Greatest Thing in the World” by Henry Drummond, about I Corinthians 13, the love chapter.  It had a huge impact on his life and for the first time he began to think about a God who loved him. He really wanted to know and understand the love of God in his own life so he started going to other churches even though his parents did not want him to go. He attended Young Life and this lead to true salvation in the spring of 1973.

Jim and Eliza met shortly thereafter and attended a meeting of young Christians at Northwestern University. They prayed for Jim and he received the Holy Spirit, speaking in tongues and for the first time, he felt God’s fire. He felt like a burning fire was placed in his stomach and to this day, it is the most important event that has ever happened in his life. He soon prayed in the Holy Spirit and Eliza remembered those times in her bedroom when she sang in tongues.

They wed in February of 1975 and went on to have 10 children and 18 grandchildren, always doing their best to seek God, His word, and to pray for wisdom in their lives. Jim worked in industrial sales and real estate which led them to Florida. Since 2015, God has turned their lives upside down. Everything in their lives has changed but it has been some of the greatest years of their lives.  They sold their home, got rid of most everything they owned, and started a new life for themselves. They feel that the time is now to move forward to fulfill God’s plan for their lives - to reach, teach, and touch as many people as God puts in their path.
