JESUS CHANGES LIVES

This is the story of three lives changed in Thailand.

Bpa Noot

Bpa Noot was sharing with me how much change she has experienced since learning about Jesus. Not only does she not argue with her husband very much anymore, but she also testified that she has changed from being impatient to now being much more peaceable and patient. Even her sister, Mae Da, has commented on the change that has taken place. The last few weeks we have been learning about who Holy Spirit is, and I explained that the change Bpa Noot has experienced and the peace she feels is because of Him.

Last month she was having some pain and swelling in one of her fingers. On the way to church on Sunday she explained that the doctor said she might even have to have surgery. Right there and then I had Nick (one of my youth) lay hands on Bpa Noot’s finger with me and we prayed. Much to her husband’s surprise, a day or two later her finger was healed; the swelling had all gone away and she had only a small bit of pain left. She was so excited to tell me about what happened and continues to grow in confidence that God answers our prayers.

Nick

I’m not sure what word to use to describe everything that has taken place over the last couple of months as I continue to walk with Nick. Despite the many different challenges he has had to face - from temptations with drugs and pornography to his dad going to prison - I praise God for what He is doing in Nick’s heart.

Recently, several of our outreach teams from AMO Foundation collaborated do a youth camp for the kids from our different outreaches. From Mae Khao Tom, we had 4 kids attend, including Nick. While each of our kids experienced God’s love in one way or another, everyone noticed the notable impact the camp had on Nick. The Sunday after our youth camp, Mae Da even asked what happened to Nick, saying that it was like he had changed into a new person.

I don’t think I’ll ever forget that moment when I heard Nick singing the chorus of “No Longer Slaves” as we got ready to go to sleep one night during the camp. A week later, Nick and I were in the car together and he asked me to play this song again. I could not help but feel such a deep sense of hope and gratitude towards the Lord for allowing me to be part of Nick’s journey in discovering his identity as a son.

Kham Jing

We usually spend time with Kham Jing on Saturday mornings, teaching her (and sometimes one or two of her friends) English, playing games together, and sharing Bible stories.

We have been so blessed to see a genuine faith being produced in Kham Jing. One Saturday, I felt the Lord lead us to share the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to challenge Kham Jing and a few of her friends to be bold enough not to worship the idol at school now that they know the One True God. In most schools here, the kids are taught to worship idols and say a Buddhist prayer every day. I was a little bit nervous that they might not be ready for such a challenge, but I really felt like the Lord was leading us to talk with them about this. If nothing else, I trusted that we had sowed the seed of the truth into their lives and that when they are older, the Lord would bring it up in their hearts again.

Praise God! Even though some of her friends and even one teacher have tried to pressure her into worshipping the idol again, Kham Jing has stood firm in her faith in Christ. It hasn’t been easy for her, and multiple times she has told us how sad this persecution has made her feel, but she continues to press on with faith and joy.
