LIVES TRANSFORMED

LIVES TRANSFORMED

"And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose." - Romans 8:28

Quincy's Story

Elizabeth "Quincy" Ado's early life was anything but easy. Abandoned by her father and losing her mom when she was only six, she and her two younger sisters had little hope when they moved in with their grandmother. Her grandfather couldn’t work, so Quincy would return home during school lunch breaks to help her grandmother with her laundry business just to be able to buy food.

Their relatives lived in the same complex, but life wasn’t peaceful—there was a lot of drinking, fighting, and constant chaos. Despite the challenges, Quincy’s grandmother made sure the girls went to church. It was there that Quincy started dreaming of a better future.

After her grandmother passed away from cancer, Quincy met Elna.

Elna and I saw a real opportunity to invest in Quincy’s future, so once she graduated, we invited her to stay with us. She got her own room to study for her board exam, a space to focus and has been building that better future.

Elna also helped Quincy in other ways, like teaching her how to cook. Before, her diet mostly consisted of rice and canned foods, but she has learned that “green is good on your plate” and began to embrace healthier eating...although eating papaya fruit is still a challenge!

It was a turning point—a chance for Quincy to grow in more ways than one.

This past May, we celebrated with friends and church members as Quincy passed her board exam. She now has the tools for a life rooted in Christ, along with a degree that will help her pursue a brighter future.

Joshua's Story

Joshua is in his first year of university studying Information Technology and has been part of a scholarship program through our local church. Elna and I met him at one of the monthly scholar meetings. We invited him to join a small group of students. I could tell as I spoke with him, he was a thinker.

His story began to unfold gradually as trust was established. As the first-born child, his parents separated when he was just three years old. He then became the unwanted child, as his biological parents each found new partners and started new lives.

When he was in elementary school, his stepfather would physically beat him, he was the last to eat meals sometimes only getting the bones, and this lasted for a year. When he was eight years old, he was sent to his grandfather.

His grandfather truly loved him, but as a Pepsi driver, he was transferred six times across the country over the course of ten years. They often lived in small apartments that were located with a compound of warehouses or near the Pepsi processing plants.

Books became his friends. He decided to study philosophy in high school. When he joined our small group, he was a follower of Arthur Schopenhauer, who believed that life is inherently marked by suffering due to the constant striving and the unfulfilled “will to live.”

As he learned more about the Bible, I asked if he would be interested in doing One2One, a small booklet with seven lessons designed for those who want to learn more about living a life with Jesus. There was an opportunity after the first lesson to surrender your life to God. He said yes and I has continued to walk with him in his spiritual journey.

We organize quarterly gatherings for university students, which include an open day of swimming, snacks, and a Bible study. We typically have 15 to 20 students participate, and Joshua began coming to our gatherings.

At first, some students were surprised that he was speaking! He has become more confident. The shy, and quiet type of Joshua, is beginning to open up and share his thoughts. He also began sharing his faith with a classmate at his university.
We believe that Joshua's spiritual journey is just beginning!

We are witnessing more students like Quincy and Joshua grow in their faith, establishing a strong foundation for a purposeful life, and experiencing freedom in Christ. Together with your prayers and partnership, we are helping the next generation discover Jesus and experience His love while encountering the Holy Spirit and His power. Through this, they can come to understand the Father's purpose for their lives.
