YOUTH CAMP

YOUTH CAMP

Chebaiywo, Kenya:

Veronica and I were invited to be the main speakers at a youth camp, our first time doing ministry among the youth in quite a while. We were amazed at what took place during that week!

As we drove to the location where the camp was to be held, we imagined that the group would be rather small. We thought that we would be ministering to the staff of our fellow missionary friends who have around twenty-five young people in their ministry.

Chebaiywo is a very small community, and as we drove, we realized that our destination was quite rural. We were shocked and amazed when we arrived at the ministry site to find around sixty-five young people worshipping the Lord! Each day we ministered, the group grew in size until there were about one hundred youth.

After each session, we gave discussion questions to the leaders. They broke the youth attending into several groups, who then spent about thirty minutes discussing what was taught. It was awesome to see the youth talking about how what they were taught impacted their lives.

The missionaries we worked with have done an amazing job raising the young people to be leaders. This group of dedicated young people led the entire event and have started a church as well. Although no concrete plans have been made, we have been invited to return in the future. We'd love the opportunity to return in 2025 and continue sharing with these young leaders!

As many of you know, Veronica has a heart for young people and has been preparing herself for the past couple of years to minister to the youth. She was the opening speaker for the camp, and afterward, the missionaries told her that it was very unusual for women to be seen as ministers and that her example gave much encouragement for the young women that they could do whatever God had called them to do.

On the last day of the camp, Veronica and I, along with some of the leaders of the youth, spent a couple of hours answering questions that the youth had written down. That was exciting! At the end of the question and answer session, there was a time for activation, and thirty-six young people gave their hearts to Jesus!
